The 'Best Practices Network for Sustainable Development' analyses and disseminates successful solutions to key sustainable development problems. Its goal is to make these solutions available to as broad an audience as possible, with a view to avoiding re-invention and ultimately promoting sustainable development. The Network is a joint activity between the Multi-state Working Group on Environmental Performance –a network of United States Environmental Protection Agencies–, the European Environment Agency and the United Nations Environment Programme.

Its 'guides for practitioners' are one of the Network's key outputs. They are succinct, step-by-step documents which describe ways and means to implement proven solutions for a growing range of topics selected by Network members. Spinoffs of this work include the information contained in this website and the networking required to prepare the ‘guides’, which brings together experts that otherwise might not have had the opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences.

Additional information on the Network's goals and premises is included in this downloadable document.
